This is crazy. Did humans really think that dumping trash year after year into the ocean would be ok? Did they think it would just disappear? Hmmm…or maybe they thought the giant sea creatures would treat it like a midnight snack? Well, I’ve got news for us, garbage, especially plastics, don’t just disappear.
There are points in our world’s oceans that have currents that swirl around and around and create kind of a stagnant zone. The one in the Pacific Ocean, in particular, has a problem…..a huge trash patch that covers roughly 250,000 square miles (about the size of Texas).
